The spirit of compassion for the sick, the weak, the marginalized and the poor lives at the heart of Humanist Beauty. We believe in giving before receiving. As such, prior to launch, our Founder initiated a social media campaign called From My Closet to inspire and gift the community over $20,000 worth of merchandise and also to raise funds for charity. We have donated funds to Gates Philanthropy Partners and Change.org to support projects that help those affected by COVID-19. We have donated to the mighty Black Lives Matter cause. And going forward, we commit to donating 3% of gross revenues – not net revenues or net profits – to well-vetted 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations that improve the well-being of under-served and disadvantaged humans and accelerate environmental progress.

Hello. My name is Jennifer Norman, Founder of Humanist Beauty. Here’s my story.
My life didn’t start out on a bed of roses. Actually, at the age of two, I was abandoned, then rescued, then brought to a local children’s orphanage in South Korea where I received compassion and care. Then, just months later, a kind-hearted family from New York saw my picture, adopted me and raised me as their own.
Growing up Asian in a predominantly white community did have its hardships. I was teased for my looks – it didn’t help that I had severe adolescent acne and a mouth full of braces. I became a shy, competitive introvert, throwing myself into school work, art, dance, piano, and as many after-school activities as I could squeeze into an overbooked schedule. Along the way, I developed a penchant for experimenting with my clothes, makeup, and hair. On the outside, I wanted to stand out. But on the inside, I wanted to fit in. I wanted to look like the impossibly perfect models in all the magazines. I developed a bulimic eating disorder that lasted straight through my 20s. I felt like I was never good enough.
My studious, competitive nature propelled me through college and then through business school. My obsession with beauty landed me a job at L’Oréal in New York City. I would go on to work for the likes of Victoria’s Secret and Neutrogena, and for 2 decades I would escalate in the beauty industry, building brands and selling products through the same type of image-based marketing I had fallen prey to as a teen. What was the meaning of it all?
Over time, I yearned to live a life of greater meaning, intention and purpose. As if the universe was listening, I was gifted that purpose through my son who was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder at the age of two. I almost lost him. Many, many times. But somehow, some way, he pushed through with a supernatural will to survive. For over a decade, I dedicated myself to his care. I studied up on various aspects of health and wellness. I researched ancient herbal remedies, alternative therapies, energy healing and modern advancements.
Caring for my son cast light on things I had so easily taken for granted before. I came to appreciate the preciousness of health and wellness. I came to feel tremendous gratitude for the kindness and compassion of others. I came to realize that real beauty is not seen with the eyes but felt with the heart.
Now, as I introduce Humanist Beauty, I believe there is hope for this thing called the human condition. Regardless of who you are, or where you came from, or what you look like, or what abilities you have…you matter. And YOU are beautiful. And Humanist Beauty is for you.
